ALGANOVA kickoff meeting in Seville

From 9 to 10 June 2026, the ALGANOVA consortium gathered in Seville, Spain, for its kick-off meeting. Hosted by the project coordinator, IDENER, the meeting took place at the Eurostars Torre Sevilla, which organised a welcome lunch on the rooftop to help everyone get to know each other.

During the two-day meeting, the consortium aligned on the project roadmap, explored each work package, and laid the groundwork for an ambitious mission: to develop and validate an integrated, computationally assisted, circular biorefinery for the sustainable production of proteins and other high-value food ingredients from microalgae, through the valorisation of industrial agro-marine by-products and biogenic CO2 waste.

Pilar Llorente Ruiz de Azua, Project Officer at ALGANOVA, joined the meeting to provide a detailed explanation of the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) programme, co-founder of the ALGANOVA project. During her presentation, she also outlined the most important aspects of the Grant Agreement and the monitoring obligations which each consortium partner should comply with. The presentation was very useful, enabling the consortium to start work with a clear understanding of the issues and with the main administrative queries resolved.

As part of the agenda, IDENER organised a guided tour of the Real Alcázar, followed by a dinner of traditional Spanish cuisine. These activities provided an opportunity to get to know the other partners in a more informal setting, which is essential for fostering the teamwork that is so important for the success of a multidisciplinary and ambitious project such as ALGANOVA.
